Ski with the Rich & Famous Beaver Creek Ski Resort

Posted in Snowmass resort

Beaver Creek Ski Resort

Find out where you can rub shoulders with celebrities on skis in Colorado ski resorts.

Beaver Creek ski resort - “Not exactly roughing it” is their slogan and that pretty much says it all. The rich and famous ski there, movie stars and ex-presidents have their homes there. So what’s the attraction?

There’s something rather special about Beaver Creek. The creation of the resort was influenced by St.Moritz in Switzerland and Cortina in Italy and the result is an exciting mountain to ski and a village wrapped in luxurious treats.

Perhaps it’s the ski valets who unload your skis from the buses and place them on the snow for you. Or maybe it’s the escalators that take you from the village to the bottom of the lifts, so you don’t have to walk in clumpy ski boots or carry your ski gear. The moving walkway to take you between ski lifts at the bottom of the hill is a great idea and the hot chocolate chip cookies at three o’clock every afternoon really are the icing on the cake.

Beaver Creek is one of those ski resorts that is tucked away, just past Vail on the I 70 corridor in Colorado. As many Denver “weekend warriors” stop at Copper, Breckenridge or the world famous Vail ski resorts before they get to Beaver Creek, this resort stays quiet and untouched. Beaver Creek likes it that way. On busier weekends they even limit the number of skiers allowed on the mountain to keep the slopes empty.

Beaver Creek resort is made up of 3 separate and distinct villages: Beaver Creek village is the first stop for many and really the main center of the resort. As you enter the village all the walkways are heated and clear of snow. The focal point is an ice rink, where you’ll see children and adults alike practicing their skills and picking themselves off the ice. Around the periphery are boutiques, art galleries, the Vilar Center for the Arts, bars and restaurants ranging from reasonably prices to very top end offerings. The fur coat selection is not to be missed.

Bachelor Gulch sports the world renowned Ritz Carlton Hotel and many other homes and condominiums. Fully linked to the other areas, Bachelor Gulch offers mostly intermediate skiing and skiers can make turns all the way down to the Ritz Hotel and often spot swimmers in the indoor-outdoor pool with steam rising from the pool.

Arrowhead Village is the westernmost entrance to the resort and offers the Broken Arrow restaurant and bar with outdoor patio to enjoy some of the 300 days of sunshine whilst watching the skiers & snowboarders come whizzing down the slopes.

The 148 trails and 17 lifts make this a resort of reasonable size and gives plenty of skiing. Designed for all abilities, Beaver Creek can challenge you on its Grouse Mountain bumps or let you relax on Strawberry Park’s gentle groomers. Beaver Creek is big on grooming and you can see those piste bashers on the slopes at any time of day.

And don’t forget the famous World Cup Course for ski racing. The Birds of Prey downhill course attracts hundreds of skiers early in the season to compete on the world cup circuit. The Golden Eagle and other double black diamond runs are part of the course and although not for the faint-hearted are definitely skiable for visitors who care to try their skills.

Just outside the resort area are the two towns of Avon and Edwards, which offer accommodation for those of us who haven’t quite made the A star celebrity list. Wildfire Lodge in Avon is a one to be recommended - a European style chalet fits rather well into this setting of elegance and charm.

In Vail Vacation Packages A Bear Rug Fireplace and Deer Antlers

Posted in Snowmass resort

Vail Vacation Packages

Imagine returning to your Vail vacation packages accommodations after a busy day of skiing. You walk up the steps and find yourself transported back in time to the rustic log cabin atmosphere that was so familiar at Yellowstone and other great lodges: a fire in the fireplace, comfortable armchairs, a bear rug, and deer antlers with lights intertwined hanging from the ceiling. That is the feeling that the Vail Mountain Lodge was striving for in their recent addition to their lodge.

The Vail Vacation Packages is a premiere accommodation in North America’s top ski destination…you’ll be hard-pressed to find accommodations that reach this level. The lodge features 24 rooms that are beautifully and luxuriously appointed and offer a stunning view. This isn’t just any hotel room… it’s a hotel room with style, combining the qualities of the rustic lodge with the qualities of a luxury hotel.

In addition to the hotel itself, there is the trendy and popular Terra Bistro which serves a menu with foods inspired from Southwest, Mediterranean, and Asian cuisine. They also have a huge wine list to mix the perfect drink with your perfect meal.

If your muscles are sore from several days of skiing, the Vail Mountain Lodge also has a spa with a salon, massages, and custom packages designed for you. Or, you can get your muscles moving again at their athletic club which has an indoor climbing wall as well as state of the art equipment and classes in such things as yoga and Pilates.

Residences are available for people who want to stay longer or enjoy a little more privacy and less attention than at the hotel. With prices in the $285,000 range for a fractional ownership that can be exchanged with other clubs around the US, you’ll have a high end place to stay when you’re in Vail.

Vail Mountain Lodge has great views of Vail Mountain, which consists of 7 bowls divided into 3 skiing areas. The Front Side offers great skiing for the beginning skier. The Blue Sky Basin offers great slopes for the intermediate skier. The Back Bowls offer skiing for the advanced skier. You can get a shuttle to take you from the lodge to the mountain, along with your skis, and then pick you up afterward.

Be sure to take a day off of skiing at Vail and head to some of the nearby towns that dot the map on or near the I-70. Check out Antlers restaurants, Snowmass Mountain in Snowmass or Aspen Colorado, eat some Snowmass Chili, take a Snowmass Mountain photo, and head back to the Vail Mountain Lodge for an evening of dining and shopping. Since Vail is a Bavarian inspired village, it was designed to be relatively car-free and everyone walks from one quaint shop to the next.

Skiing is hot at Vail but so is the nightlife and if you’re the kind of person who comes alive at night, you’ll love the great nightlife in this town. Then head back to the Vail Mountain Lodge…part of your Vail vacation packages…for a few hours sleep before you hit the slopes again!

The Best Ski Resorts For Advanced Skiers

Skiing Resorts for Expert Skiers

Skiing Resorts for Expert Skiers

Aspen Snowmass Ski Resort, in Colorado, offers more than 5,200 acres across four mountains, two of them dedicated to advanced skiers. Snowmass is 32-percent Double Black Diamond (steep and/or dangerous terrain icons, to the uninformed). Aspen Mountain offers even more thrills, with 26-percent Black Diamond runs and another 26-percent Double Diamond runs. The mountain, nicknamed Ajax, is renowned for its precipitous slopes and moguls (read “big bumps”, for the uninitiated) that can send the unwary or reckless ski aficionado flying into white space.Aspen has 76 trails and 8 lifts, with no beginner slopes and half the terrain given to intermediate runs. The remainder is about equally divided between advanced skiers and experts. Experts will love the challenge of double-black slopes and woodland terrain. For a real rush, try the Go-Go-Gully or the Highland Bowl, pitched at aproximately 48 degrees.Killington Ski Resort, located in Vermont, is a superb resort for the advanced skier. Almost half of the terrain is devoted to advanced trails, including the Double-Black-Diamond rated “The Outer Limits” which has enough moguls to make even expert skiers achieve flight.

Other terrain includes woodland, or glade, skiing and steep terrain. Killington has 12 Double Black Diamond trails and 18 Black Diamond runs. In all, 200 trails connect seven mountains via 33 chairlifts. Killington has the longest skiing season in the Northeast U.S. (typically November through to April), an aproximate annual snowfall of 250″, and 70% snowmaking capacity. Lessons are available without advance reservation at the Perfect Turn Ski School.Mad River Glen, in Vermont, features a mountain that is only open to skiers; no snowboarding or tubing allowed. The Glen is not well known, but its motto, “Ski It If You Can” indicates the level of difficulty. Most of its snow is Nature-made, providing natural moguls.

Narrow, wooded trails and 45 advanced trails offer the ultimate in skiing challenge. Five lifts provide adequate coverage to the 800 acres of skiing. For Eastenders, the Glen is 3 hours from Boston and just a little further from New York.Winter Park Ski Resort in Colorado has a variety of skill-level trails, but the most difficult ones comprise more than half the terrain. One peak, the Mary Jane, starts at 12,000 feet and runs four miles down the mountain with a 2,600-foot descent. More than half the trails on Mary Jane are listed as difficult. The Pansenne Bowl starts at a similar elevation and drops 1,700 feet in five miles. The truly expert trails are located on the Vasquez Cirque, with three-quarters of these listed as advanced and the balance for expert skiers only.

Ski Town Village Stock PhotoBreckenridge Skiing Resort is also located in Colorado, USA. Half of the trails are rated as advanced or expert, with around 23 trails in the Double Black Diamond class, featuring snow bowls, woodland terrain and backcountry wilderness. Breckenridge also has a terrain park for advanced extreme skiers - the kind who have learned to fly on a pair of skis. With over 100 trails and some 29 lifts, including the highest chairlift in N. America, Breckenridge will delight skiers who have mastered more than a parallel stop. Breckenridge also has a ski school, and its historic downtown offers the non-skier and skier alike endless shopping, dining and nightlife opportunities.Other mature-rated ski resorts include Mammoth Mountain in California, with 150 trails and one of the best back-country ski routes in N. America. Whiteface Ski Resort, in Lake Placid, New York, offers the highest vertical drop in the East (3,340 feet), and an area known as “The Slides”, which are Double Black Diamond runs without snowmaking or grooming that form steep chutes, or gullies. If you are less than expert, think twice before attempting The Slides.

Ski Resorts Are Your Gateways To Nature

Posted in Snowmass resort

Ski Resorts

Ski resorts can be found in most of the fifty states and in British Columbia and Alberta Canada. The larger ski resorts that offer challenging on and off piste four season alpine sports are California, Utah, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Wyoming, Colorado, New Mexico, Montana, Vermont, New York, Connecticut. However small ski resorts and surroundings can offer the same products for outdoor enthusiasts with less crowds.

Backcountry and slope side opportunities are abundant since ski resorts are established on mountain ranges and often in high altitude. Winter opportunities such as slope side and off piste alpine skiing, snowboarding and off trail showshoeing and cross country skiing is abundant. For the other three seasons it’s ‘choose your passion’ whether it be mountaineering, hiking, climbing, mountain biking, trail running, backpacking, camping or just plain exploring. Whether in bounds or out of bounds is your comfort zone a vast multitude of outdoor opportunities await you in and around ski resorts.Getting to nature and nearby ski resorts depends on your choice of outdoor enjoyment.

If you would prefer to be playing on the slopes and they are not within reach then air travel and renting a car may be your choice of travel. However, if tent camping, or roughing it and being in the throes of nature sounds more appetizing with backpacking then a car with a rack may serve you best. And if you prefer more amenities so that you can spend more time in nature with the kids then consider renting a truck camper or pop up camper or full size recreational vehicle. Ski resorts are year round and are there for nature’s enjoyment in the winter and for spring, summer and fall.Using ski resorts as geographical landmarks can get you to nature in the warm months when the skiing is over. Getting to the alpine may take a little effort, but the connection with nature is worth it.

Ski Resorts In France

Posted in Snowmass resort

  ski s france

The ski resorts of Les Arcs and La Plagne in France is surrounded by spectacular mountain ranges and both ski resorts attract phenomenal amount of skiing enthusiasts on vacation in France and Europe. La Plagne is like a space city, with its own suburban satellites and at least 2.5 million so called ’skier days’ and is arguably the single most visited ski resort in the world along with its link to neighboring Les Arcs ski resort. With so many visitors to La Plagne and Les Arcs, it follows that there are many hotels and accommodations to cater to the skiers and tourists alike.

La Plagne, is a ‘third generation’ French ski resort and it probably influenced other French resorts like Flaine, Avoriaz and Les Arcs to go for brave new world space age architecture abandoning the traditional charming rustic designs of ski resort architecture.

Skiing in La Plagne, you will encounter every conceivable permutation of piste and off piste, from exhilarating descents on the huge sweeping glacier at Bellecote (3,000m or almost 10,000ft), to delightful cruising down quiet, meandering, larch lined avenues to the charming villages of Montchavin-Les Coches, Champagny-en-Vanoise and Montalbert. In between these two extremes is La Plagne’s biggest attraction for intermediate skiers anxious to cruise till they drop in the seemingly endless wide open skiing adventure.

Having extended its empire to 10 different ski villages, La Plagne is planning to send a tentacle across the valley between Montchavin and Peisy Vallandry to form what will arguably be the third ski domain in the world.

Les Arcs, whose connection by Eurostar train terminal at Bourg St. Maurice makes it the most accessible high-altitude French resort and has always been at the cutting edge of skiing and snow boarding. It pioneered ’ski evolutif’, a technique for fast learning by progressing quickly from very short skis to longer ones. It became the principle home of the Kilometre Lancee in which daredevils on huge 237cm or 8 ft skis, clad in thin aerodynamic plastic suits and ‘Darth Vader Star Wars’ style visors, speed down a special track at breathtaking speeds of about 240kph or 150mph.

Similar to La Plagne, Les Arcs has acres and acres of good cruising and its off piste opportunities are simply fabulous. The Aiguille Rouge, which dominates the resort has many challenging runs down its front face and is also the starting point for one of the longest skiing descents in the French Alps. The largely black run down to the charming village of Villaroger is over 16km or about 10 miles long. Can you beat that!

With such wonderful skiing opportunities, is it any wonder why La Plagne and Les Arcs ski resorts claim to attract the most holiday vacation skiers not just in France but in the world as well?

Perfect Place to Learn a New Sport Check Out in Breckenridge Colorado

Posted in Snowmass resort

Breckenridge Colorado

Traveling to Breckenridge, Colorado, where to have a perfect place to learn a new sport like snowboarding or skiing.

Psyched for a winter getaway to the charming mountain town of Breckenridge, Colorado. Colorado is known for its majestic snow covered mountains and great slopes, it’s always safe to assume you would be spending a lot of your vacation time out and about the snow. A lot of time with snow would naturally mean you should learn something good that has to do with it, a snow related sport. Now all you have to do is decide whether you will be taking skiing or snowboarding. Here are few helpful points to consider before you decide.

If you’re new to the sport, it would be wise to try the gear you will be using. A skier as what you have seen in the sports channel, attach each of their feet to a long slender ski with curved end towards the top. Snowboarders strap both of their feet on a board. As the name suggest, the board of course, looks like a skateboard only most of the time shinier and probably bigger and of course minus the wheels at the bottom. To get the idea which gear you are most comfortable with, try and move around a little and see what position you feel most natural to you while speeding down a mountain. Of course, snowboarders bottom half face forward almost all the time, switching sides along the way. Skiers, normally face forward most of the time while skiing. If you’re a beginner and you spend most of the time skiing with your back facing forward, that is most definitely not good.

Boarders have their hands free and of course use them as their balancing device. Beginners of skiing use the poles to help them stand after a fall, boarders however; since they’re bound to have more difficulty in balancing themselves should be able to scoot their way up. Don’t worry the first thing instructors teach is the correct way to fall. How encouraging. Skiers use very thin but strong poles. The length of these poles may vary, usually depending on the height of the skier. These poles are used to launch or start skiers and use it to maintain or gain speed. The poles help maintain their balance, on top speeds; the skier assumes a crouch-like position with the knees firmly together and the poles are tucked in the armpit.
Breckenridge, Colorado

In learning any new sport, it is very important to know what risks you will be encountering as you try and learn it. Knowing what sport injury you are most likely to have is one way of deterring an injury itself. Skiing will be hard on the knees, so it is more likely a skier will have a knee related injury. So take it easy on your knees. Since snowboarding is harder to balance, you will most likely spend more than half of your learning time on your backside. Snowboarders’ hands are free, it is most likely the body part you would use to break your fall, your wrist will take a beating and is most likely to be injured. Trying to learn a new sport will make you use muscle groups you never knew you had, so brace yourselves for a lot of muscle pain after your first few sessions.

The snow where these sports are based upon is a big factor to consider when you are about to choose your sport. You have to consider your long term plans in choosing. Breckenridge, Colorado will have both deep, fresh snow and icy, bumpy patches so it’s perfect for both snowboarding and skiing enthusiasts depending on the time of season and weather conditions.

Snowboarding is better suited for deep, fresh powder while skiing is a good choice if the snow is more icy and bumpy. If you are so into speed, which sport could offer you the adrenaline rush you need? Snowboarding is often portrayed as the more adrenaline rush sport, so daring daredevils tend to incline more likely to this sport. But skiers who are of the same level as snowboarders counterparts are almost always faster.

Remember that you won’t become a pro overnight. You will experience your muscle hurt in places you don’t even know could hurt. Remember to prepare yourself for the sunny Breckenridge slopes, the sun could hurt your chances of having fun by getting sunburn, not including the unsightly red patches of uneven sunburned skin. By applying sunscreen and lip balm you will be able to prepare for a whole lot of time learning with the beautiful snow all around. Keep hydrated by drinking lots of water. Skiing and snowboarding are a great way to exercise; exercise helps release endorphins in your body, endorphins make you happy. So go out and enjoy the snow and most of all, have lots of fun. With patience, lots of practice and determination, you will be able to glide down the mountain slopes in no time.
